Time for a list

I've been working hard recently on my Warriors of Chaos army, but up to this point, I have just been building models that I like, with no real rhyme or reason to the units I'm putting together.

I need some focus. This first attempt at a list, is just that a first attempt, I fully expect the list to change at least a dozen times between now and me reaching 2500 points of painted chaos goodness (chaos goodness? really?)

Anyways, here it is:

Ted's Chaos list 1st attempt

Chaos Lord on a Manticore with the Crimson Armor of Dargan, the Talisman of Preservation, Gold Sigil Sword, Shield, and the Mark of Khorne

Exalted Hero on a Juggernaut of Khorne with the Mark of Khorne and the Chaos Rune Sword
Exalted Hero on a Juggernaut of Khorne with the Mark of Khorne, Battle Standard, Talisman of Protection, Sword of Battle

Chaos Warriors x18 with Halberds, Shields, Full Command, and mark of Khorne

as written comes in at 2482 points. I have lots of room to fiddle, and none of this is set in stone yet, so any ideas are more than welcome.

Wow, sorry those pictures in my last post turned out so bad, I knew they weren't that good when I took them but didn't realize just how bad they were until I saw them posted.

Hopefully these are a little better.



Above, once again we have a few shots of my "Blood Father" for our Mordheim Campaign. I also think he is going to pull double duty, acting as the Unit Champion for my Warriors unit. I think you can see the sculpting work better in these pictures, to give you a better idea of the look I'm going for with my Warriors. I really find the current GW Warriors to be too static, each warrior is a devastating Warrior and servant of Chaos and should be an individual with trophies and what-not. It's going to be quite a bit of work, but in the end I'm hoping it's worth the effort.

Next up we have my "Meduim" Cavalry unit. Marauder Horsemen, with Light Armor, Shields, and Spears. A unit of 10 with full Command, should be able to pack a little punch and be great for supporting the Charge of my Chaos Knights unit.


Below you can see my test model for my Marauder Horsemen, I am using the same limited color palette that I used for my Marauders, even on the horses. This does a couple of things for me, 1. I can paint the army quickly and 2. I think it pulls the army together, I have been attempting to really go to town, modelling each warrior in this Warband as an individual, and I feel the unified paint scheme is the one thing that will tie the whole lot together.

Here is a detail shot, everyone gets eyes painted in this army. Not so hard really with practice.

A Warriors of Chaos update

A little dark I know, but I snapped these in a hurry. Below you can see the start of my Chaos Warriors unit. The conversions are a simple kit bash. I enjoyed making them and am quite happy with the way they turned out, even if they aren't everyone's cup of tea. Just 14 more to build for my unit of 16 that I plan on including in my army.




Next up we have the start of my first of three Marauder Horsemen units. This first unit will be 10 strong, armed with spears. Again a bit of a kit bash. The Chaos Knight lances are doing double duty in this army, acting as Halberds for the Warriors and Spears for the horsemen.



Again, sorry for it being so dark, but here is a WIP of the paint scheme I have planned for my Horses. I started with an Army Painter brown as a base coat and worked up from there. I am sticking with a very limited color palette, that will match with the rest of the army for a strong cohesive look.


I saved my favorite for last, the "Blood Father" the Warrior Priest Seer in my Marauder Warband for Mordheim. he got his ass kicked steadily last night, but things can only get better from here. especially after I get some paint on him. took quite a bit of time to get the Bloodletter skull helm right and the sculpting work on the hair and beard, but in the end I am pleased with the results.



That's about it for now, time for me to get some paint on some of these models. I will have better pictures to post once I get some completed stuff up.

Warhammer Fantasy, finally some progress, and what's going on this weekend...

I know it's been awhile, but between work, family, holidays, Skyrim (damn that game) and so on, things have been quite hectic.

I have however, been hard at work on my new Warriors of Chaos army. My first unit of 20 Marauders is fully assembled and primed, and some even have paint on them!

Below you can see a "WIP" of my first unit


You can see that I only have the first rank with paint, and I have yet to add shields to many of the models, but I think it gives you a good idea of how the unit will look and the feel I am trying to get across for the whole army.



Above we have the first two models I built for this army, truthfully the paint scheme while simple, is quite effective, and I should have no trouble maintaining this level of quality throughout the whole project.

Below is a close up shot of the unit Standard bearer, the Marauder to his left (your right on the screen is not yet finished, I still need to add another highlight to the reds, and the horns of his helmet




He has since been completed. I have recently started work on a unit of 10 Marauder Horsemen, the horses have been assembled and cleaned, and I gave them a coat of "Army Painter" Leather Brown, I have just finished the bases, and they are awaiting a coat of Krylon black as I type. Hopefully I will get an update with some more WIP pictures up this weekend.

Speaking of this Weekend,

Saturday night I will be heading to Jester's Playhouse where Rich is going to be running a Realms of Chaos Campaign.
Entry is FREE as are the models that we get to build, and keep when we roll up our Warbands!
So, if you love Chaos and you like Warhammer Skirmish type games then come to Jesters on Saturday night, I think things are starting around 7:00pm

Then on Sunday I will be at AetherStorm Gaming, working on my Fantasy army and helping some folks with their painting. So, if you are looking for an excuse to paint some models, then stop by for some good conversation over a paint brush and a cup of coffee. I'll be there around noon.

It's that time of year again

No, I am not talking about the Holidays, though it is that time of year as well. What I am talking about is Mordheim. Last year, January through March I played in a Mordheim Campaign with my Reiklanders Warband (some of you may remember the post, if not be sure to check it out).

Well, as January approaches, I am working on a brand new Warband. This time I thought I would do a Marauders of Chaos Warband

Probably not the wisest of choices, but after seeing the most recent issue of White Dwarf and the Chaos Warband done by Julian Bayliss I was hooked. It has to be Chaos. I even think that this may be the start of a Warhammer Fantasy Army. I like the models that much, but time will tell.

What follows are some WIP shots of my new Warband



Above is probably my favorite model of the little band so far. Kinda reminds me of that guy in the Skyrim commercial.



The guy above still needs some work on his shoulder, I'm still quite new at sculpting muscle, and may end up covering the shoulder with a Shoulder pad, once my Chaos Knights order comes in.

After speaking with some people about what to do about Great Weapons for Marauders I didn't like any of the bits that people were using. Empire Great Swords just didn't seem "manly" enough. So I decided to go with Bloodletter Swords from the Daemons plastic kit.


Quite a bit of chopping, and sculpting work but I think my skills are improving. This project is really going to test my modelling skills I think.

Talk about "Paint on a Pig"

Recently in an effort to try out some new lists, I found myself needing a couple of Rhino Transports fast.
Not in the mood to open and build new kits, which would cause me to do a rush job on them, I went into the garage and rummaged through some old stuff I had laying around.

I found a few old and beat up Rhino Transports which I had put aside for a terrain project that I haven't gotten around to.
After some rummaging through my bits box, I found enough pits to fix them up a bit and put them back into action.

After a bit of cutting and cleaning, I hit them with some Army Painter, gave them a quick paint job, and in a couple of hours I had 2 "new" Rhinos


Please bear in mind that these were just a couple of rush paint jobs to get them on the field, but over all I am happy with the end result.

Just goes to show ya, when it comes to this hobby, don't throw anything away...

A new project?

Been playing around with a new 40k project.
I know, it's Grey Knights, but I love the look of these models.
With painting this model, I really wanted the army to look highly polished. It is also another foray into using Army Painter, I used the Plate armor spray, and used a series of washes to darken and tone the army, then I highlighted it back up with Chainmail, Mithril Silver, and finally a sharp edge of Skull White.

Here are my thoughts on a list:
Grand Master with Halberd and Incinerator

3x Squads of Terminators, I haven't figured out the exact configuration yet, but I know they will all have Psicannons

3x Dreadnoughts with Assault Cannons

3x Storm Ravens with twin-linked Assault Cannons and twin-linked Multi-Melta

Much different from what I've seen around at Tournaments and on the Net, but I think it will be fun to paint and play...
